Elysian Fields, November 29, 2003 Ten methusalahs gathered to play the Elysian Fields Munich tournament this past Saturday. We had only two rounds plus final to slowly lead our new players to the full glory of the one-day tournament experience - two that first played in the storyline and one brand new player showed up. The players and their decks: Michael Ruetter played a Gangrel rush deck with all the evil new monsters, but seemed to have problems with defending and pool-gain, so no VPs. Christian Kremer had a Tremere based toolbox deck which looked a little slow. He also scored a blank in the high-bleed environment of the day. Tom Hoefle, our newest player, dusted off an oldschool Brujah bruise'n'bleeder. Made life hard for some with his scary combat, but lacked defense so also 0 VPs. Monica Martins brought her reliable Ahrimanes deck, should have won the first table but misplayed an Aire so missed the crucial first oust, and got crushed with the rest of the table in her second match against Thomas' stealth bleeders. 0 VPs. Markus Muerth also scored a blank with his Thetmes-based Assamite slaughter deck, which meant that everybody with a VP made the final. First one to do so was Falco Haempel sporting his Giovanni Dom/Pot/Tha rush and bleeder. He profited from a "I oust everybody but me" vote to gain his VP. I was playing a Lasombra stealth-bleeder with a strong voting sideline and used Dramatic Upheavals to snipe enough VPs for the final. Rui Videira brought fortitudous Trap/Undead Persistence weenies and collected 1 GW on his way to the final. Erwin Dworzak fielded big Neo-Gangrel for a bloat'n'vote deck with many S:CE and scored an impressive table win in the first round. Finally Thomas Gschwandtner cruised into the final with his "Great Greta" clone: Aus/Obf/Pre stealth bleed with solid combat defense looked unstoppable on this day. And so it was. Seating order for the final was Rui (Fortitude weenies) - me (Lasombra) - Falco (Giovanni) - Thomas (Greta) - Erwin (Gangrel) but it didn't last long. I switched places with Rui on the first opportunity to avoid a humiliating early death. The weenies waltzed into Falco's pool, a few were killed on the way, but it didn't seem to matter. Falco had to go backwards which gave Thomas the breathing space to develop his deck. I had Gratiano, Power Structure and finally Vitel to stop Erwin from going anywhere, but he died a little to soon for my taste. Aroud the same time the weenies finally ousted the Giovanni, but the extra six pool were not enough to save them from my Vitel-enhanced bleeds. The end game looked grim for me though - I had hardly any pool gain with only one Blood Doll on Aaron and no tool against Thomas' stealth with all my Deflections sitting useless in my hand. I tried an all-out-attack, but his Khobar Towers saved him. After that he stealth-bleeds me out. Congratulations on the win, Thomas, and thanks alot to everybody for making this a very pleasant day of V:tES.
